Today we watched a lot of the videos we made and talked about the pros and cons of each of them. The main point made about music videos were
You need lots of cuts.
A large variation of shot angles.
Experiment with dances - the same thing will get boring.
If appropriate, try to add humour.
Try to learn the words, even if not all at once, learn a line then record it.
If you are simply reading from a lyric sheet it is noticeable in the video.
Try and enjoy yourself.
If you look embarrassed or miserable it reflects on the resulting video.
In our video, people noted that as we were all shown in different places, it gave each of our 'characters' a different back story. Most of our group selected Alex to be the main singer, as he generally started the song and had most screen time. This is probably because he gave the most impressive performance, but i think i gave everyone about equal time on screen, apart form me so it didn't really look like we had a 'main guy'.

Roxanne Lip Sync Task
We were told to go out with a camera and record us lip syncing a song we were given. We were given Roxanne, by the Police which i think was pretty hard. This is because while not as lyrically challenging as, say, Dizzee Rascal, it was a really dull song. With the rap song, you could jump around and do the whole 'rap hand' thing. You look like an idiot, but it makes the video a bit more enjoyable. With ours it was really slow and boring, so we had to try and do something to
make it interesting. Pretty much all you could do to that video was slowly sway backwards and forwards, because too much movement would be out of place, and nothing was just boring.
It was also hard because it was one of the few songs choices that i didn't know the words to so i wasn't really sure about it. When we were recording it, we needed the 'singer' to be able to hear the music, but the camera also had to hear it, but when i had to record, i couldn't hear whan the music was going so i was a bit out of time hat it came to editing. Which is partly why i have removed the footage of me from the video. All four of us were filmed 'singing' and then we did a group film, but i didn't use much of that either because i don't think it looks as good as some of the other footage we have.
In order to keep it in sync, i used 4/5 different levels. Whatever piece of footage is at the top of the pile is the piece that is being shown, So if you want something on a lower level you simply cut away whatever is above it and it will show that clip.

DJ Format and You wanna what Lip Sync

The first thing we did to get ready for our music video project was to go into one of the media rooms and try to edit a music video. To do this we were given clips from the video and told to sync them up and then cut them into appropriate bits.
The first one we did was a DJ Format song, where we were given seven different songs, and we had to choose one of them and put the video to it. This was quite a fun task, because you didn't have to sync it up properly as you couldn't see the mouths moving, you simply had to make sure the movement fit in with the mood of the song.
The next thing we had to do was sync up some video some students recorded to a song (You wanna what?). This was pretty easy as we had the master track, and the audio from the recording they did. All we had to do was find the same place in both songs, mark them and line them up. Then it was just a matter of cutting seemingly at random to create something presentable.
